Cutting Layout

The sewing guide provides cutting layouts for both 45-inch and 60-inch fabric widths.
For accurate cutting:
- Arrange the pattern pieces according to the recommended cutting layout diagrams.
- Position every grainline parallel to the fabric selvage.
- Pin the pattern pieces securely before cutting for improved accuracy.
- The layouts are designed for non-directional fabrics.
- Purchase additional fabric if using fabrics with nap or directional prints.
- The illustrated layouts use the small size as the example.
Fabric Cutting and Preparation
Prepare your fabric carefully before beginning construction.
Arrange the pattern pieces according to the cutting layout diagrams, ensuring every grainline arrow runs parallel to the fabric selvage.
If you are using fabric shears, trace the pattern pieces before cutting and trim away any pen, pencil, or chalk lines as you cut. Remember to cut all notches that appear on the pattern edges, as these markings help align the garment accurately during assembly.
Transfer all required pattern markings, including circles, buttonholes, and fold lines, to the wrong side of the fabric using tailor's chalk or another suitable marking tool. Mark the center front on pieces cut on the fold to help align the garment correctly during construction.
Seam Allowance
Please follow the seam allowances as indicated on the pattern file layers. These are provided specifically for each piece to ensure accurate construction.
This pattern uses a 1 cm (3/8 inch) seam allowance all around, a 1.8 cm (3/4 inch) seam allowance on one long edge of the neck frill, and a 0.7 cm (1/4 inch) seam allowance all around the sleeve casing.
Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions
Step 1: Attach the Sleeves
1a. Sew the first front armhole
Place the front piece and one sleeve piece with right sides together, aligning the front armhole notches. Sew along the armhole to attach the sleeve to the front piece.
1b. Sew the second front armhole
Repeat Step 1a to attach the second sleeve to the opposite side of the front piece.
1c. Attach the back piece
Place the back piece on one of the unsewn sleeve armholes with right sides together, aligning the armholes. Sew along the armhole to attach the back piece.
1d. Complete the second back armhole
Repeat Step 1c for the remaining sleeve armhole and the other side of the back piece.
Step 2: Sew the Side Seams
Align the side seams with right sides together.
Sew from the sleeve hem down to the bottom line of the sleeve casing, then stop to leave a gap. This opening is needed so the sleeve casing can be attached later.
Resume sewing from the top line of the sleeve casing and continue down to the bottom hem.
Repeat on the opposite side of the blouse.
Step 3: Prepare the Sleeve Casings
3a. Finish the short edges
Fold both side edges of each sleeve casing piece twice toward the wrong side to enclose the raw edges. Sew along the folded edges to finish them.
3b. Press the seam allowances
Fold the seam allowances of the sleeve casing pieces and press them with an iron to create crisp creases.
Step 4: Create the Sleeve Casings
4a. Press the sleeve seam allowances
Spread the seam allowances of the sleeve side seam open and press them flat with an iron.
4b. Position the sleeve casing
Place the folded sleeve casing on the sleeve at the sleeve casing marking. Pin the sleeve casing all the way around the sleeve to hold it in place.
4c. Stitch the sleeve casing
Sew along both top edges of the sleeve casing to secure it to the sleeve.
4d. Repeat for the second sleeve
Repeat Steps 4a, 4b, and 4c on the other sleeve using the remaining sleeve casing piece.
Step 5: Create the Neck Casing and Attach the Neck Frill
5a. Join the neck frill pieces
Place both neck frill pieces with right sides together.
5b. Sew one side seam
Sew one side seam of the neck frill pieces to join them together.
5c. Finish the side edges
Open the neck frill pieces. Fold both side edges twice to enclose the raw edges, then sew along the folded edges to finish them.
5d. Finish the long edge
Fold the longer edge with the smaller seam allowance twice and sew along the folded edge to secure it.
5e. Attach the neck facing
Place the neck facing piece over the V-cut marking on the front of the blouse. Sew along the V-cut marking to secure it in place.
5f. Trim the V-cut
Trim the fabric in the center of the V-shaped stitching. Trim close enough so the fabric turns neatly without creating bulk when the edge is folded.
5g. Turn and press
Turn the neck facing to the wrong side of the blouse and press the seamline flat.
5h. Finish the V-neck
Fold the seam allowance of the neck facing twice to enclose the raw edges. Sew along the folded edge to neatly finish the V-neck opening.
5i. Attach the neck frill
Place the open seam allowance of the neck frill along the neckline seamline with right sides together. Sew around the neckline to attach the frill.
5j. Press the neckline
Spread the neckline seam allowance open and press it flat with an iron.
5k. Create the neck casing
Fold the open edge of the neck frill seam allowance by 0.5 cm, or enough to completely cover the raw edge. Position the folded seam allowance along the neck casing seamline, pin it in place, and sew along the edge to close the neck casing.
Step 6: Finish the Hems
Fold the bottom hem and both sleeve hems first by about 0.5 cm. Fold them again along the hem seamline to enclose the raw edges, then sew along the folded edge to finish the hems.
Step 7: Create the Drawstrings
7a. Fold the tie piece
Fold the neck and sleeve tie piece in half lengthwise with the wrong sides facing out. Press with an iron to create a crease along the fold.
7b. Sew the drawstring
Sew approximately 0.25 inches away from the raw edge along the long side of the tie piece.
7c. Turn the drawstring right side out
Use a loop turner to turn the tie right side out.
Cut one drawstring in half to create two shorter ties for the sleeve casings.
Optional: Cut an extra neck and sleeve tie piece if you would like longer drawstrings, or trim the ties to your preferred length.
