Fabric Recommendations
The sewing guide recommends using light- to medium-weight woven, woolen, or non-stretch knit fabrics, including:
- Cotton
- Polyester
- Poplin
- Cambric
- Rayon blends
The sample garment shown in the sewing guide is made from woven flannel fabric.

- Is lightweight.
- Has a smooth and soft texture.
- Is durable and long-lasting.
- Is breathable and comfortable.
- Has moisture-wicking properties.
Size Charts
Check the size charts and measure yourself to select the correct size, using the garment and body measurement tables in the guide.

Cutting Layout

The sewing guide provides cutting layouts for both 45-inch and 60-inch fabric widths.
For accurate cutting:
- Arrange the pattern pieces according to the recommended cutting layout diagrams.
- Position every grainline parallel to the fabric selvage.
- Pin the pattern pieces securely before cutting for improved accuracy.
- The layouts are designed for non-directional fabrics.
- Purchase additional fabric if using fabrics with nap or directional prints.
- The illustrated layouts use the large size as the example.
Fabric Cutting and Preparation
Prepare your fabric carefully before beginning construction.
Arrange the pattern pieces according to the cutting layout diagrams, ensuring every grainline arrow runs parallel to the fabric selvage.
If you are using fabric shears, trace the pattern pieces before cutting and trim away any pen, pencil, or chalk lines as you cut. Remember to cut all notches that appear on the pattern edges, as these markings help align the pieces accurately during assembly.
Transfer all required pattern markings, including circles, buttonholes, and fold lines, to the wrong side of the fabric using tailor's chalk or another suitable marking tool. Mark the center front on pieces cut on the fold to help align the garment correctly during construction.
Seam Allowance
Please follow the seam allowances as indicated on the pattern file layers. These are provided specifically for each piece to ensure accurate construction.
This pattern uses a 1.1 cm (0.45 inch) seam allowance all around, a 2.54 cm (1 inch) seam allowance at the hem of the top, and a 3.81 cm (1.5 inch) seam allowance at the waist and bottom hem.
Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions
Top
Step 1: Create the Front Piping
1a. Prepare the piping strips
Cut a strip 5 cm wide with a length equal to the center front, adding 1 cm for the seam allowance.
Create a total of three piping strips:
- Two strips equal to the center front length.
- One strip equal to the neckline length.
1b. Position the string
Place the string in the center of the wrong side of the fabric strip.
1c. Fold the strip
Fold the fabric strip over the string to completely enclose it.
1d. Sew the piping
Stitch close to the edge of the enclosed string to secure it and create the piping. Repeat until all three piping strips are prepared.
Step 2: Attach the Front Facing
2a. Position the piping
Place the raw edge of one prepared piping strip along the right side of the center front edge, extending from the collar end notch to the hem. Pin it in place.
2b. Attach the front facing
Finish the princess line edge of the front facing with a serger.
Place the front facing right side down over the piping, aligning all edges. Pin the layers together and sew from the collar end notch to the hem using a lock stitch.
2c. Turn and press
Turn the front facing and piping to the wrong side of the garment and press the seam with an iron.
Repeat Steps 2a–2c for the second front piece and front facing.
Step 3: Sew the Shoulder Seams
Place each front piece and the back piece with right sides together.
Align the shoulder seams and sew them using a lock stitch or an overlock stitch.
Repeat for the opposite shoulder seam.
Step 4: Prepare the Collar
4a. Position the piping
Place the prepared neckline piping along the collar stand seamline of one collar piece.
4b. Join the collar pieces
Place the second collar piece on top, aligning all edges.
Sew from one collar end notch to the other using a lock stitch.
4c. Turn and press
Turn the collar right side out and press the seam neatly with an iron.
Step 5: Attach the Collar
5a. Pin the collar
Position the prepared collar along the neckline of the top.
Match the center back markings and align the seam allowance closest to the neckline with the neckline edge. Pin the collar in place.
5b. Sew the neckline
Sew around the neckline using a lock stitch, leaving the second collar seam allowance unattached.
5c. Finish the collar
Turn the garment to the wrong side.
Fold the remaining collar seam allowance inside the collar to conceal the previously sewn seam allowance. Sew along the neckline with a lock stitch to close the collar neatly.
For a smoother finish, trim away any excess seam allowance to reduce bulk before enclosing it inside the collar.
Step 6: Attach the Sleeves
Spread the shoulder seam allowances of the prepared top open.
Match the center armhole notch on the sleeve with the shoulder seam of the top. Align the armholes with right sides together and pin them in place.
Sew around the armhole to attach the sleeve.
Repeat the same process for the second sleeve.
Step 7: Sew the Side Seams
Match the side seam notches and align the side seams with right sides together.
Sew continuously from the sleeve hem down to the bottom hem using a lock stitch or an overlock stitch.
Repeat for the opposite side seam.
Step 8: Finish the Hems
Fold the bottom hem seam allowance by about 1 cm toward the wrong side. Fold it again along the hemline and press with an iron.
Sew close to the folded edge, starting at one side seam and continuing around the hem until you reach the starting point.
Repeat the same process for both sleeve hems.
Step 9: Sew the Buttonholes and Buttons
Using a buttonhole presser foot, sew the buttonholes with a zigzag stitch at the designated markings or at equal intervals along the front opening.
Sew the buttons onto the left front, positioning each one directly opposite its corresponding buttonhole.
Bottom
Step 1: Sew the Front and Back Crotch Seams
1a. Prepare the front pieces
Place the two front pant pieces with right sides together.
1b. Sew the front crotch
Align the front crotch curve and sew it using an overlock stitch.
1c. Prepare the back pieces
Repeat Steps 1a and 1b for the two back pant pieces to sew the back crotch seam.
Step 2: Sew the Inseams
Press the front and back crotch seam allowances open with an iron.
Place the prepared front and back pant pieces with right sides together and align the inseams.
Sew both inseams using an overlock stitch or a lock stitch.
Step 3: Sew the Side Seams
Align the side seams with right sides together.
Sew along both side seams using an overlock stitch or a lock stitch.
Step 4: Finish the Waistband
4a. Fold the seam allowance
Fold the waist seam allowance by about 1 cm toward the wrong side and press it with an iron.
4b. Create the elastic casing
Fold the waistband along the waistline toward the wrong side and press again.
Sew close to the folded edge to create the waistband casing, leaving an opening of about 1.5–2 inches for inserting the elastic.
4c. Insert the elastic
Thread the elastic through the waistband casing. The elastic should be 2–4 inches shorter than your waist measurement, depending on how snug you would like the waistband to fit.
4d. Pull out the elastic ends
Pull both ends of the elastic through the opening in the casing.
4e. Join the elastic
Overlap the elastic ends and sew them together securely using a zigzag stitch.
4f. Close the waistband
Tuck the elastic completely inside the casing and sew the opening closed to finish the waistband neatly.
Step 5: Finish the Pant Hems
Fold the bottom hem seam allowance by about 1 cm toward the wrong side. Fold it again along the hemline and press with an iron.
Sew close to the folded edge, beginning at one side seam and continuing around the hem until you reach the starting point.
