Pajama Set Sewing Pattern 'Pebble'

I prefer pyjama trousers that sit just below the knee, so I shortened the legs by about thirty centimetres before cutting. The modification was simple and the proportions of the shortened version still look balanced. This pattern adapts well to length changes, which I appreciate.

I attached a narrow cotton lace trim to the collar and cuff edges before the final finishing seam, which gave the set a delicate, vintage-inspired look. The construction order in the instructions made it easy to insert the trim at the right stage. A small embellishment that completely transformed the character of the finished set.

The top is cut with a slight A-line shaping below the bust which is both flattering and comfortable for sleeping. The side seam placement is considered and the top and trouser lengths are proportioned to work well together. Small drafting decisions like these separate a good pattern from a great one.

After making a few simple pillowcases and a tote bag I wanted to try a garment. This pyjama set was the perfect entry point — familiar straight seaming, a small button band, and the new challenge of an elasticated waistband. The instructions made all three achievable in a single session.

I had only worked with knit fabrics before and this was my introduction to woven sewing. The instructions explained pressing seams open versus to the side and why it matters, which was useful context. The finished pyjamas look neat and professional and I am now keen to try woven garments more.
