Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions
1. Create the Box Pleats
1a. Join the side notches together with right sides facing to form each pleat. Press neatly so the mid-notch aligns with the fold line, then pin in place.
1b. Sew from the waistline to the end line of the pleat box marking. Repeat for all remaining pleats.
1c. Open each pleat and press it flat from the mid-notch. Repeat for every pleat.
1d. Sew a line of basting stitches within the waist seam allowance to hold all pleats in place.
Repeat the same process for the back skirt piece.
2. Attach the Pockets
2a. Place one pocket piece on the skirt front with right sides together, matching the pocket opening notches. Sew between the notches and clip the inside corner.
2b. Fold the pocket to the wrong side along the stitching line and press to create a neat crease.
2c. Topstitch along the pocket opening to secure the pocket to the skirt front.
2d. Place the second pocket piece on top of the attached pocket piece with right sides together.

5. Attach the Zipper
5a. Position the right side of the 8-inch zipper (or your preferred length) against the right side of the skirt. Pin or baste in place, then stitch close to the zipper teeth. Repeat for the opposite side of the zipper, attaching it to the back skirt.
5b. Turn the skirt wrong side out and close the zipper. Sew the side seam beginning 1–2 cm above the zipper notch and ending at the zipper notch. Pivot the fabric to sew across the bottom of the zipper tape, then backstitch several times to secure it.
6. Sew the Remaining Side Seam
Sew the remaining side seam from the zipper notch down to the hem.
7. Finish the Waistband
7a. Place the remaining front and back waistband pieces with right sides together and sew one side seam.
7b. Fold the seam allowance of the bottom waistband edge to the wrong side and press.
7c. Place this waistband onto the waistband already attached to the skirt with right sides together. Pull the zipper tape toward the right side and sew along the upper waistline.
7d. Carefully sew the side of the waistband along the edge of the zipper teeth.
7e. Turn the waistband right side out and gently push out the stitched corners for a crisp finish. Turn the skirt inside out, then pin and sew the folded bottom edge of the waistband to the skirt waistline to complete the waistband.
8. Hem the Skirt
Fold the hem allowance and sew around the entire hem, beginning and ending at the side seam.
