Fabric Cutting and Preparation
Arrange all pattern pieces according to the cutting layout diagrams before pinning them securely to the fabric. Ensure each grainline arrow runs parallel to the selvage.
If using fabric shears, trace the pattern pieces before cutting. Carefully cut away any pen, pencil, or chalk lines, and remember to cut all notches, as these help align the pieces accurately during construction.
Transfer all pattern markings—including circles, buttonholes, and fold lines—to the wrong side of the fabric using chalk or a fabric marking pen. Mark the center front of any pieces cut on the fold to help with accurate assembly.
Seam Allowance
Please follow the seam allowances as indicated on the pattern file layers. These are provided specifically for each piece to ensure accurate construction.
This pattern uses a 1 cm (3/8") seam allowance all around and 3.8 cm (1 1/2") at the hem.
Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions
1. Sew the Front Pleats
Match the two pleat notches on the front piece with right sides together and press them in the direction of the pleat marking.
Sew along the waistline to secure the pleat in place.
Repeat the same process for the other front leg.
2. Attach the Front Pockets
2a. Place Pocket Facing 1 (Pattern F) onto the pocket opening of the front leg with right sides together and sew along the pocket opening.
2b. Clip the curved seam allowance and turn the pocket facing to the wrong side. Press neatly.
2c. Topstitch close to the pocket opening to keep the facing in place.
2d. Place Pocket (Pattern E) behind the front leg, matching the pocket opening and notches.
2e. Sew the pocket to the pocket facing.
2f. Place Pocket Facing 2 (Pattern G) over the remaining pocket opening edge and sew.
2g. Fold the pocket pieces together to form the pocket bag and align all edges.
2h. Sew around the pocket bag, securing all pocket layers together.
2i. Baste the completed pocket to the waistline and side seam within the seam allowance.
Repeat the same process for the opposite front leg.
3. Sew the Back Darts
Fold each dart by matching the dart legs with right sides together on the back leg.
Stitch along the dart line on the wrong side of the fabric and press the dart toward one side.
Repeat for the second dart.
4. Construct the Welt Pockets
4a. Fold the welt pocket bone in half lengthwise with the wrong sides together and press. Sew along the long edge using a 1 cm seam allowance.
4b. Place one welt pocket lining onto the back leg with right sides together, aligning it with the welt pocket marking. Ensure the top welt marking faces the hem and sew along the upper welt seamline.
4c. Fold the welt pocket lining away from the seamline to create space for the welt pocket bone.
4d. Position the prepared welt pocket bone along the lower welt marking with its raw edges facing the waistline. Sew along the lower welt seamline, ensuring the folded welt width matches the welt opening.
4e. Fold the welt pocket bone away from the marked opening and carefully trim the welt pocket marking by cutting a straight slit with a 90-degree V-shaped cut at both ends.
4f. Fold the trimmed edges toward the wrong side and press to create a clean rectangular opening for the welt pocket.
4g. Pull both the welt pocket bone and pocket lining through the opening to the wrong side and press neatly.
4h. On the right side of the back leg, fold back the fabric to expose the V-shaped cuts. Sew both short ends of the welt opening to secure all layers.
4i. Turn the garment to the wrong side and move the pocket lining aside to expose the welt pocket bone.
4j. Align a second welt pocket lining with the raw edge of the welt pocket bone and sew them together.
4k. Press both pocket lining pieces toward the hem to form the pocket pouch. Sew around the remaining three sides of the pocket lining to complete the welt pocket.
Repeat the same process for the second back leg.
5. Prepare the Fly Zipper
5a. Fold the right fly cover with right sides together and sew along the curved bottom edge.
5b. Clip the seam allowance, turn the fly cover right side out, and shape the corner with a point turner or similar tool.
5c. Place the prepared fly piece onto the left front leg with right sides together and sew.
5d. Turn the fly piece to the wrong side and topstitch along the edge to secure it.
5e. Position the zipper with right sides together along the fly edge and sew one side of the zipper tape away from the seamline.
5. Complete the Fly Zipper
5f. Place the right fly (Pattern C) on the opposite side of the zipper with right sides together and sew the remaining zipper tape to the fly.
5g. Fold the fly pieces into their finished position and close the front trousers. Pin the fly in place.
5h. Topstitch along the curved fly marking on the right front to secure the fly and zipper.
5i. Secure the bottom of the fly with a short horizontal row of stitching across the base of the fly.
5j. Topstitch the fly opening to complete the front zipper closure.
6. Sew the Back Crotch Seam
Place the two back trouser pieces with right sides together.
Sew along the back crotch seam, matching the notches carefully.
Press the seam open or finish the raw edges as preferred.
7. Sew the Side Seams
Place the prepared front and back trouser legs with right sides together (Figure 7a).
Sew both side seams together to complete each trouser leg.
8. Prepare the Waistband
8a. Cut a piece of fusible interfacing to match the length of the waistband (including seam allowance) and the width of the waistband (excluding seam allowance). Fuse it to the wrong side of one waistband piece.
8b. Fold the seam allowance on the side seam notch edge toward the wrong side and press.
8c. Place both waistband pieces with right sides together, aligning all edges.
8d. Sew along both waistband ends to secure the side edges.
9. Attach the Waistband
9a. Place the waistband onto the trouser waist with right sides together, matching the waistband notches with the trouser waist notches.
9b. Sew along the waistline seam.
Note: The buttonhole side of the waistband should be positioned on the fly side, with the button sewn on the right front waistband.
9c. Fold the waistband over the waist seam, enclosing the seam allowance inside.
9d. Sew along the lower waistband edge to close the waistband neatly.
10. Prepare and Attach the Belt Loops
Fold both long edges of the belt loop strip toward the center.
Fold the strip in half again to enclose the raw edges and press.
Topstitch along both long edges of the strip.
Cut the strip into six equal belt loops.
11. Attach the Belt Loops
Fold both ends of each belt loop by approximately 1 cm.
Position each belt loop at the designated belt loop notches around the waistband.
Sew a few backstitches at both the top and bottom of each belt loop to secure it.
Repeat for all remaining belt loops.
12. Sew the Inseam
Match the crotch ends of the front and back trouser legs with right sides together (Figure 12a).
Begin sewing from one hem, continue through the crotch, and finish at the opposite hem to complete the inseam.

13. Finish the Hem
Fold each hem twice:
- First by 0.25 inches to conceal the raw edge.
- Then fold again along the hemline toward the wrong side.
Sew along the folded edge to secure the hem.
Repeat the same process for the other trouser leg.
14. Sew the Buttonhole and Button
Use a buttonhole presser foot to sew the buttonhole, aligning it with the button marking on the waistband.
Sew the button onto the right side of the waistband, matching the buttonhole when the waistband overlaps.
