I thought the Gleam top might be a one-occasion piece given its statement nature, but I have actually worn it far more frequently than I anticipated. It works as a going-out top, a smart casual piece, and even dressed down with jeans. A very versatile pattern despite the dramatic silhouette.

Lightweight viscose gives the best drape here

I tested the Gleam top in two fabrics and the lightweight viscose version was far superior in drape to the cotton one. The asymmetric panels really need a fluid fabric to show their intent. This is a pattern where fabric selection makes a significant difference to the end result.

I found the single shoulder seam sat slightly forward of where I wanted it so I adjusted the placement by about a centimetre before finishing. The change was easy to make and the result sat exactly on my shoulder point. A minor thing that is easily corrected.

I made the Gleam as my second top and found it more achievable than I expected. The one-shoulder seam is the only slightly tricky part and the instructions covered it well. My finished top in a coral chiffon is very wearable and looks intentional.

How do I figure out the right size?
