Overall the Blake is a solid pattern that I've made twice and enjoyed both times. My minor criticism is that the instructions only describe a simple turned-and-stitched hem finish. For a more casual version in denim or canvas I would have liked a note on using a raw hem or a rolled hem as alternatives. It's a small gap in otherwise thorough instructions.

I made my Blake in a soft olive cotton lawn and swapped the standard buttons for some vintage tortoiseshell buttons from my collection. As someone who finishes seams with a serger I appreciated that the allowances give enough fabric to catch securely without being excessive. There's a note in the instructions about using a slightly longer stitch length for topstitching and spacing the stitch line evenly from the edge, which I followed carefully.
