Love this skirt, hem length needs checking

The Maple is one of my favourite makes and I've gifted the pattern to three friends. My mild criticism is that the maxi length listed in the size guide assumes a specific height and the hem fell a bit long on me at five foot three. I'd recommend comparing the finished length measurement in the pattern against your own height before cutting.

Added a lace trim to the bottom tier

I modified my Maple by sewing a strip of cotton lace trim along the bottom hem of the lowest tier. I simply reduced the hem allowance by the width of the lace and top-stitched the lace in place over the folded hem. The result looks delicate and intentional and adds a lovely handmade touch.

Gathering seams press flat without bulk

I used a lightweight cotton and the gathered seams pressed beautifully flat once I directed the seam allowance upward and steamed them. The finished skirt has no visible bulk at the tier joins, which is often a problem with tiered skirts in heavier fabrics. The fabric recommendation in the pattern is worth following closely.

What I appreciate as an intermediate sewer is that the tier heights in the Maple are not equal — the lower tiers are slightly deeper, which creates a more natural, flowing silhouette.
