Cutting Layout

Arrange the pattern pieces according to the recommended cutting layouts for 45-inch or 60-inch fabric widths.
Ensure that each grainline runs parallel to the fabric selvage before pinning the pieces in place. The layouts shown are intended for non-directional fabrics. If your fabric has a nap or directional print, purchase additional fabric to accommodate proper placement.
The illustrated cutting layouts use US Size 4–6 as the example.
Fabric Cutting and Preparation
Arrange all pattern pieces following the recommended cutting layout, making sure each grainline is parallel to the fabric selvage.
Carefully trace and cut each pattern piece if using fabric shears, trimming away any marking lines while preserving all notches.
Transfer all important pattern markings—including circles, buttonholes, fold lines, and the center front markings—to the wrong side of the fabric to ensure accurate assembly throughout construction.
Seam Allowance
Please follow the seam allowances as indicated on the pattern file layers. These are provided specifically for each piece to ensure accurate construction.
This pattern uses 1 cm (0.38") seam allowance all around, 0.7 cm (1/4") at the armhole and 1.3 cm (1/2") at the hem.
Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions
1. Sew the Front Darts
Fold each dart on the Front (Pattern A) by matching the dart legs with right sides together.
Sew along the marked dart lines on the wrong side of the fabric, then press the darts downward toward the hem.
Repeat for the second dart to complete the front bodice.
2. Create the Bodice
Place the prepared Front and Back (Pattern B) pieces with right sides together.
Align the side seams and sew them together to form the bodice.
Pro Tip: Pinning the pieces before sewing helps maintain accurate alignment. It's also recommended to press the garment after each step for a cleaner finish. Refer to the Pattern Marking page whenever you need to identify seamlines, notches, or other reference points.
3. Attach the Armhole Binding
3a. Place one Armhole Binding (Pattern D) along the armhole edge of the prepared bodice with right sides together. Align the raw edges and sew along the armhole seamline.
3b. Fold the binding over to the wrong side of the garment.
3c. Fold the unstitched raw edge of the binding inward by 1/4 inch to conceal it, then stitch along the folded edge to finish the armhole neatly.
Repeat the same process for the second armhole using the remaining binding piece.
4. Finish the Back Cut-Out
4a. Cut a fabric strip measuring 5" × 0.5" to create the Back Cut-Out Binding. Serge or overlock all edges to prevent fraying.
4b. Place the binding along the back cut-out with right sides together. Align the crease at the center of the binding with the center of the back cut-out, pin in place, and sew along the seamline.
4c. Carefully clip the center of the back cut-out binding without cutting through the stitches, then turn the binding to the wrong side.
4d. Topstitch along the edge of the back cut-out to secure the binding neatly in place.
Tip: To locate the center of the binding, fold it in half by bringing the two short ends together and press a crease before attaching it.
5. Create the Button Loops
5a. Cut a new fabric rectangle measuring 5" × 1.5".
5b. Fold the strip lengthwise with right sides together, matching the long edges.
5c. Sew along the long edge approximately 1/4 inch from the raw edge to create a fabric tube.
5d. Trim the seam allowance to reduce bulk, then use a thin stick or darning tool to turn the tube right side out.
5e. Cut the finished tube into two 1-inch pieces to create the button loops.
6. Prepare and Attach the Collar
6a. Cut a piece of fusible interfacing to match the interfacing markings on the Collar (Pattern C). Position the glue side against the wrong side of the collar and fuse it in place with an iron.
6b. Position the two prepared button loops on the button loop notches with their raw ends aligned together. Pin or baste them securely in place.
6c. Fold the collar in half at the center back with right sides together.
6d. Fold one collar neck seam allowance toward the wrong side and press. Sew along the center back seamlines.
6e. Turn the collar right side out.
6f. Place the unfolded edge of the collar along the neckline of the bodice with right sides together. Match the front notches with the front neckline, align the center notches, and match the back notches with the back neckline. Pin and sew along the neckline seam.
6g. Fold the collar upward and turn the bodice inside out. Align the folded open edge of the collar with the neckline seam and topstitch along the folded edge from the inside to enclose the neckline neatly.
