I made Sierra in a champagne stretch satin and the total fabric cost was modest compared to what a dress of this design would cost to buy. The fit is better because I made it to my exact measurements and the quality of the construction is something I'd never find at a comparable price point in a shop. Beautiful dress, shoulder stay would be a nice addition

The finished dress is beautiful and I wore it to a party with complete confidence. The one note I would offer is that a tip about using a bra strap holder or small snap to secure the shoulder to your bra strap would be a useful addition to the instructions. I added one before wearing and it made a real difference to comfort over a long evening.

Extended the hem for a floor-length version

I added twenty-two centimetres to both hem panels to create a floor-length version for a black-tie dinner. The asymmetric effect at floor length is dramatic in the best way and the ruching still reads well at the longer hemline. The pattern's construction supported the modification without any complications.

The ruching panels are drafted so the gathering is distributed across the section that flatters the body, not just wherever happens to be easiest to gather. Other ruching patterns I've used placed the fullness in the wrong position and it looked accidental. Sierra's ruching looks considered and the effect is exactly right.
