Cutting Layout

Arrange all pattern pieces according to the cutting layout diagrams provided in the guide. Ensure the grainline arrows run parallel to the selvage. The layouts are suitable for non-directional fabrics. If your fabric has a nap or directional print, purchase additional yardage to accommodate layout requirements.

Separate cutting layouts are provided for both 45-inch and 60-inch fabric widths. The illustrated examples use a medium size for reference.

Fabric Cutting and Preparation

Arrange the pattern pieces following the cutting layout diagrams, ensuring all grainlines are correctly aligned with the fabric selvage.

Cut carefully around all pattern pieces and transfer any notches and markings accurately.

Use chalk, a fabric marking pen, or pencil to transfer circles, buttonholes, fold lines, and placement markings to the wrong side of the fabric. Mark the center front on folded pieces to help with accurate assembly.

Seam Allowance

Please follow the seam allowances as indicated on the pattern file layers. These are provided specifically for each piece to ensure accurate construction.

This pattern uses a 1.1 cm (or 0.45 inch) seam allowance all around, 1.9 cm (or 0.75 inch) at the hem and 1 cm (or 0.4 inch) at all around the collar band, collar and at the neck of the front and back pieces, 1.7 cm (or 0.65 inch) at three sides and 3.8 cm (or 1.5 inch) at the top of the chest pocket piece.

Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions

1. Prepare the Chest Pocket

Use an iron to fold the seam allowance of the chest pocket to create a neat crease.

2. Finish the Pocket Opening

Fold the top of the chest pocket ¾ inch toward the wrong side and sew it in place.

3. Attach the Chest Pocket

Position the chest pocket on the marked location of the front piece. Sew around the sides and bottom, leaving the pocket opening unsewn.

4. Attach the Side Seam Pockets

Place the pocket pieces at the side pocket notches with right sides together and sew along the seamline.

Turn the pockets outward and secure the seam allowances to the front and back pieces. Repeat for all four pocket pieces.

5. Finish the Front Plackets

Fold the placket seam allowance and then fold along the placket fold line toward the wrong side of the front pieces.

6. Create the Inverted Box Pleat

Bring the two outer pleat notches to the center notch and pin in place. Sew along the seamline to form the inverted box pleat.

7. Attach the Back Yoke

Place the back yoke and back piece right sides together. Pin and sew along the yoke seam.

8. Topstitch the Back Yoke

Press the seam allowances downward and topstitch along the edge of the yoke to secure the seam.

9. Sew the Shoulder Seams

Place one front and the back right sides together and sew the shoulder seam.

Repeat for the opposite shoulder.

10. Attach the Sleeve Cuffs

Align each cuff with the sleeve opening right sides together and sew.

Fold and finish the cuff according to the notches, enclosing the raw edges before stitching the cuff closed.

Repeat for the second sleeve.

11. Sew the Collar

Place both collar pieces right sides together and sew around the outer edges from one collar band seam allowance point to the other.

12. Turn and Shape the Collar

Clip the collar corners, turn right side out, and shape the points carefully.

13. Prepare the Collar Band

Fold and press the neckline edge of one collar band toward the wrong side and baste it in place.

14. Assemble the Collar and Collar Band

Place the collar between both collar band pieces with right sides together and sew around the collar band seamline.

15. Press the Collar Assembly

Turn the collar band right side out and press thoroughly to create a crisp collar shape.

16. Attach the Collar to the Neckline

Place the longer collar band on the neckline with right sides together. Pin and sew along the neckline seam.

17. Finish the Collar Band

Fold the seam allowances inside the collar band and stitch to enclose the raw edges for a clean finish.

18. Sew the Side Seams and Pockets

Place the front and back pieces right sides together.

Sew from the sleeve edge to the pocket notch, around the pocket curve, and continue to the hem.

Repeat for the opposite side.

19. Finish the Hem

Fold the hem allowance twice evenly, press, pin, and sew from the right side of the garment.
