Pattern Marking

Before sewing, familiarize yourself with the markings on each pattern piece. The guide includes:
- Center front notches
- Center back markings
- Waist and waist upper markings
- Side seams
- Seam allowances
- Hem markings
- Frill placement labels
- Grainlines
Transfer all markings carefully to ensure accurate assembly and proper alignment throughout the project.
Cutting Layout

Arrange the pattern pieces according to the cutting layout diagrams provided in the guide, making sure each grainline runs parallel to the fabric selvage.
The layouts are designed for non-directional fabrics. If your fabric has a nap or directional print, purchase additional fabric to accommodate proper placement.
The guide includes layouts for both 60-inch and 45-inch fabric widths.
Fabric Cutting and Preparation
Arrange the pattern pieces following the cutting layout before pinning them securely to the fabric.
Cut carefully around each pattern piece, removing any tracing lines and clipping all notches, as these markings help align the garment accurately during construction.
Transfer all pattern markings, including center front markings and other reference points, to the wrong side of the fabric using tailor's chalk or another suitable marking tool.
Seam Allowance
Use the seam allowances marked on each pattern piece. These are precisely included to ensure proper fit.
This pattern uses a 1.3 cm (1/2") seam allowance all around and 2 cm (3/4") at the hem.
Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions
1. Prepare the First Frill Layer
1a. Place the First Front Frill right sides together with one First Back Frill piece. Sew the side seam.
1b. Repeat the same process with the second First Back Frill piece on the opposite side of the First Front Frill.
1c. Repeat Steps 1a and 1b for the First Front Lining and First Back Lining pieces to create the first lining panel.
1d. Set your sewing machine to a 5–7 mm stitch length and sew a basting stitch along the waist seam allowance of the prepared first frill panel.
1e. Tie the thread at one end of the basting stitch. Pull the thread from the opposite end to create even gathers along the waistline.
1f. Place the wrong side of the gathered first frill panel against the right side of the prepared first frill lining panel. Distribute the gathers evenly along the waist seamline and sew all around the waist seam allowance to secure the gathered main fabric to the lining.
2. Prepare the Second Frill Layer
2a. Sew the Second Front Frill to both Second Back Frill pieces along the side seams.
2b. Repeat the same process for the Second Front Lining and Second Back Lining pieces.
2c. Sew a basting stitch along the upper edge of the second frill panel using a 5–7 mm stitch length.
2d. Pull the gathering threads evenly to create gathers along the waistline.
2e. Place the wrong side of the gathered second frill panel against the right side of the second frill lining panel and sew around the waist seam allowance to secure the gathers.
3. Prepare the Third Frill Layer
3a. Join the Third Front Frill to both Third Back Frill pieces.
3b. Repeat for the Third Front Lining and Third Back Lining pieces.
3c. Sew a gathering stitch along the upper edge of the third frill panel.
3d. Pull the gathering threads evenly until the waistline matches the corresponding lining.
3e. Place the wrong side of the gathered third frill panel against the right side of the third frill lining panel and sew around the waist seam allowance to secure the gathers.
4. Prepare the Fourth Frill Layer
4a. Join the Fourth Front Frill to both Fourth Back Frill pieces by sewing the side seams.
4b. Sew a basting stitch along the upper edge using a 5–7 mm stitch length.
4c. Pull the gathering threads evenly to create gathers.
4d. Since the fourth layer is not lined, the gathered panel is now ready for assembly with the remaining skirt layers.
5. Join the Skirt Tiers
5a. Place the Second Frill Layer right sides together with the lower edge of the First Frill Layer, matching the side seams and center markings. Distribute the gathers evenly and sew around the seam.
5b. Finish the seam allowance with an overlock or zig-zag stitch and press the seam upward.
5c. Repeat the same process to attach the Third Frill Layer to the lower edge of the Second Frill Layer.
5d. Finally, attach the Fourth Frill Layer to the lower edge of the Third Frill Layer, ensuring the gathers are evenly distributed before stitching.
6. Prepare the Waistband
6a. Apply fusible interfacing to the Front Waist Belt and Back Waist Belt pieces if desired for added stability.
6b. Sew the front waistband to the back waistband pieces along the side seams to create the complete outer waistband.
6c. Repeat the same process for the waistband lining pieces.
7. Attach the Waistband
7a. Place the outer waistband right sides together with the gathered upper edge of the skirt, matching the center front, center back, and side seams. Sew around the waistline.
7b. Place the waistband lining right sides together with the outer waistband and sew along the upper waistband edge.
7c. Turn the waistband right side out and press the seam neatly.
7d. Fold the waistband lining to the inside, enclosing the waist seam allowance. Topstitch or stitch in the ditch to secure the waistband.
8. Insert the Center Back Zipper
8a. Finish the center back seam allowances.
8b. Insert the 7-inch zipper into the center back opening, aligning the zipper teeth with the seamline.
8c. Stitch each side of the zipper using a zipper foot.
8d. Close the zipper to check that the waistband aligns correctly before sewing the remaining center back seam below the zipper.
9. Finish the Hem
Fold the hem allowance toward the wrong side, press, then stitch evenly around the hem of the fourth frill layer to complete the skirt.
