Cutting Layout

Arrange pattern pieces according to the cutting layout diagrams provided in the guide. Ensure grainline arrows remain parallel to the selvage to maintain proper fabric alignment.

The layouts are non-directional. If your fabric has a nap, directional print, or one-way design, purchase additional fabric to accommodate layout adjustments.

The illustrated cutting layouts use a US Size 26 sample and include layouts for both 45-inch and 60-inch fabric widths.

Fabric Cutting and Preparation

Arrange the pattern pieces according to the cutting layout diagrams. Position the pieces so the grainline arrows run parallel to the selvage.

If using fabric shears, trace the pattern pieces before cutting. Cut carefully outside any marking lines and transfer all notches accurately.

Transfer all pattern markings, including circles, buttonholes, fold lines, and center-front markings, to the wrong side of the fabric using chalk or a fabric marker. These markings will help during assembly and alignment.

Seam Allowance

Please follow the seam allowances as indicated on the pattern file layers. These are provided specifically for each piece to ensure accurate construction.

This pattern uses a 1.2 cm (or 1/2") seam allowance all around, 2 cm (or 3/4") at the bottom hem, 2.5cm (or 1") at neckline of the front and 3.8cm (or 1 1/2") at neckline of back pieces.

Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions

1. Sew the Pintucks

Sew pintucks on both the front and back bodice. Fold the fabric along the marked pintuck lines with the wrong sides together and stitch along the folded edge.

1a. Continue sewing all marked pintucks until the required number has been completed on both front and back bodice pieces.

2. Prepare and Attach the Front Placket

Prepare the front placket pieces by cutting fusible interfacing using the same pattern shape without seam allowance. Fuse the interfacing to the wrong side of the placket pieces.

2a. Cut along the center front opening where the placket will be placed. Stop 1 inch before the placket ends.

2b. Place the placket on the front bodice with right sides together. Pin and stitch along the marked seamline, stopping at the cut point.

2c. Clip into the seam allowance along the opening in 3–4 places and press.

2d. Attach the placket facing to the front placket and stitch along the marked seamline. Match notches and stop sewing at the same point.

2e. Press and understitch along the placket joint. Repeat for the opposite side.

2f. Fold the placket facing toward the wrong side and press flat.

2g. Fold seam edges toward the wrong side and stitch the placket facing in place. Topstitch the placket.

2h. Attach buttons to the front placket at 1-inch intervals.

3. Sew the Shoulder Seams

Place the back bodice and front bodice right sides together and stitch the shoulder seams.

4. Prepare and Attach the Collar

Cut interfacing for one collar piece and fuse it to the wrong side.

4a. Stitch the collar pieces together along the top edge with right sides together.

4b. Match the collar seam to the bodice neckline seam with right sides together and stitch around the neckline.

4c. Turn the collar so the facing is on the wrong side and press thoroughly.

4d. Fold the collar edges inward and stitch the lower edge of the collar to the neckline.

4e. Topstitch around the collar edge at ¼ inch (5 mm).

5. Prepare and Attach the Sleeves

Finish the sleeve lower edges by folding twice from the seam allowance and topstitching.

5b. Match sleeve notches to the center front and back bodice. Stitch the sleeves to the bodice with right sides together.

6. Sew the Side Panel Shoulders

Stitch the shoulder seams of the front side pieces and back side pieces with right sides together.

7. Attach the Side Bodice Panels

Match the notches of the side front panels to the center front panel and stitch together. Repeat for the back panels and remaining side panel.

7a. Bind the armholes using the binding strips. Stitch the binding to the armhole edge, fold the remaining edges toward the wrong side, wrap around the armhole, and topstitch in place.

8. Prepare and Attach the Bottom Dress Panel

Baste stitch around the bottom panel following the gathering markings indicated on the pattern.

Continue assembling the gathered bottom panel to the dress body following the markings and sewing sequence shown in the guide.

9. Sew the First Side Seam

Sew the right side seam of the bodice panel by placing the right sides together. Ensure that you stitch along the right side seam.

10. Attach the Bottom Frill Panel

Attach the frill bottom to the bodice by placing the bottom frill panel on top of the bodice with right sides facing each other. Match the side seams together and pin them in place. Stitch along the seamline to secure the frill bottom to the bodice.

11. Sew the Remaining Side Seam

Complete the remaining side seam by placing the bodice with right sides together and stitching along the seamline.

12. Finish the Dress Hem

Complete the hem by folding it towards the wrong side of the fabric. Begin folding from the seamline, ensuring the edges are tucked inside the fold. Pin it in place and top stitch along the edge of the hemline.
