Always test your stitch settings on a fabric scrap before sewing the garment.

Fabric Recommendations

Use light to medium-weight knit fabrics (180–260 GSM) with 40–60% stretch, including:

  • Cotton jersey

  • Cotton-spandex blends

  • Viscose rib

  • Rib knits

  • Stretch jersey

Avoid thick or bulky knit fabrics such as heavy velour or fleece, as they can make zipper and collar construction difficult.

Sample fabric used:

  • Viscose rib knit

Size Charts

Check the size charts and measure yourself to select the correct size, using the garment and body measurement tables in the guide.

Verify how much fabric you need by referencing the fabric yield table in the guide.

Pattern Inventory: What Pieces to Prepare

  • Front bodice – Cut x2 Fabric

  • Back bodice – Cut x1 Fabric

  • Sleeve – Cut x2 Fabric

  • Collar – Cut x2 Fabric

  • Collar interfacing – Cut x1

The collar interfacing is not cut from the main fabric. It is used to create and maintain the collar shape.

Pattern Marking

The pattern includes the following markings:

  • Shoulder

  • Shoulder line notch

  • Front bodice notch

  • Back bodice notch

  • Neckline

  • Armhole

  • Side seam

  • Hemline

  • Center front

  • Zipper end notch

  • Grainline

  • Seam allowance

These markings help with accurate alignment of the zipper, collar, sleeves, shoulders, and neckline during construction.

Cutting Layout

The guide provides cutting layouts for both 45" and 60" fabric widths.

  • Arrange pattern pieces according to the cutting layout diagrams.

  • Ensure the grainline arrows run parallel to the fabric selvage.

  • Pin pattern pieces before cutting to improve accuracy.

  • The layouts are intended for non-directional fabrics.

  • Purchase additional fabric when working with directional prints or fabrics with nap.

  • The layouts shown use a medium size for illustration purposes.

Fabric Cutting and Preparation

Arrange the pattern pieces according to the cutting layout diagrams. Begin by positioning the pieces on the fabric, ensuring that the grainline arrow runs parallel to the selvage.

If you are using fabric shears, trace the pattern pieces and then cut them out, cutting away any pen, pencil, or chalk lines. Remember to cut out any notches that appear on the edges. These markings help line up the pieces when you assemble the garment.

Use your marking pen, pencil, or chalk to transfer the markings (such as circles, buttonholes, and fold lines) to the wrong side of the fabric. Mark the center front of pieces cut on the fold, as this will help you align pieces accurately.

Seam Allowance

Please follow the seam allowances as indicated on the pattern file layers. These are provided specifically for each piece to ensure accurate construction.

This pattern uses a 1 cm (or 3/8 inch) seam allowance all around and 2 cm (or 7/8 inch) at the hem.

Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions

1. Attach the Zipper

1a. Open the zipper and place the right-facing zipper tape on the seamline of the right front bodice. Pin in place and stitch down to the zipper end notch.

1b. Repeat the same process for the zipper tape on the other front bodice piece.

1c. At the zipper end notch, secure both zipper tapes with a backstitch and lock stitch. Trim away the excess zipper length.

2. Sew the Center Front Seam

Join the remaining center front seam below the zipper notch, matching both front bodice pieces with right sides together. Overlock from the zipper end notch down to the hem.

3. Sew the Shoulder Seams

Place the front and back bodice pieces right sides together and sew the shoulder seams using an overlock stitch.

4. Fuse the Collar Interfacing

Iron the fusible collar interfacing onto the wrong side of one collar piece to bond them together.

5. Sew the Collar

Place both collar pieces right sides together. Stitch from one corner to the other, leaving the neckline edge open.

6. Turn the Collar

Turn the collar right side out.

Clip the seam allowance, especially around the collar edges, to help create a smoother collar shape.

7. Prepare the Neckline Strip

Cut a neckline strip from the remaining fabric:

  • Width: 2–3 cm (finished width approximately 1 cm)

  • Length: Same as the neckline measurement

Use the stretch direction along the length. A bias cut is not required for knit fabrics.

Fold the strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.

8. Attach the Collar and Neckline Strip

Place the folded neckline strip on top, the collar in the middle, and the front bodice underneath with all right sides facing each other.

Align the raw edges carefully and secure the layers with clips or pins.

Sew all layers together with an overlock stitch.

9. Finish the Neckline

Spread the neckline strip away while keeping the seam allowance underneath. Stitch along the edge of the seam allowance to secure the layers.

Fold the strip back over onto the bodice and stitch from one side, across the bottom edge, and to the other side.

This encloses the seam allowance inside the neckline strip for a clean finish.

10. Hem the Sleeves

Fold both sleeve hems and sew from the right side using a coverstitch.

11. Attach the Sleeves

Pin the sleeve cap to the armhole with right sides together. Clip if necessary.

Sew the sleeves to the armholes.

Repeat for the second sleeve.

12. Sew the Side Seams

Place the front and back bodices right sides together.

Sew one side seam and then repeat for the opposite side seam.

13. Hem the Garment

Fold the bottom hem to the wrong side and press.

Sew around the entire hem using a coverstitch, starting and ending at the side seam.
