Fabric Cutting and Preparation

Lay Out Your Pattern Pieces

Arrange the pattern pieces according to the cutting layout diagrams. Begin by positioning the pieces on the fabric, ensuring that the grainline arrow runs parallel to the selvage.

Cut Your Fabric

If you are using fabric shears, trace the pattern pieces and then cut them out, cutting away any pen, pencil, or chalk lines. Remember to cut out any notches that appear on the edges. These markings help line up the pieces when you assemble the garment.

Transfer Pattern Markings

Use your marking pen, pencil, or chalk to transfer the markings (such as circles, buttonholes, and fold lines) to the wrong side of the fabric. Mark the center front of pieces cut on the fold, as this will help you to align pieces accurately.

Seam Allowance

Please follow the seam allowances as indicated on the pattern file layers. These are provided specifically for each piece to ensure accurate construction.

This pattern uses a 1.1 cm (or 0.45 inch) seam allowance all around and 2.54 cm (or 1 inch) at the hem.

Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions

1. Prepare the Facing Pieces

Overlock the bottom edges of the front and back facing pieces to prevent fraying.

2. Sew the Darts

Fold the fabric right sides together, matching the dart markings on the front bodice piece.

2a. Secure the dart fold by stitching along the dart lines on the wrong side. Press the dart to one side to reduce bulk in the finished garment.

Repeat the same process for the front bodice lining.

3. Attach the Facings

Place the front facing on the front bodice with right sides facing together. Align the neckline and armhole, then stitch along the seamline.

Repeat the same process for the back bodice.

3a. Turn the facing to the wrong side of the bodice and press the neckline and armhole with an iron.

4. Join the Dress

Place the front bodice on top of the back bodice with their right sides facing together. Align the shoulder and side seams, then stitch along the seamline.

5. Hem the Dress

Fold the hem from the hemline towards the wrong side and flatlock around the hem, starting from one of the side seams for a better finish.

6. Prepare and Attach the Bow

6a. Place two bow pieces on top of each other with right sides facing together and stitch along the top, bottom, and one side seam.

6b. Turn the bow piece right side out, then fold the remaining side seam inside from the seamline.

6c. Topstitch along the edges of the bow piece, starting with the open edge first.

6d. Cut a bow band with a width of 2 inches and a length of 4 inches.

6e. Place two bow band pieces on top of each other with right sides facing together and stitch along the top, bottom, and one side seam.

6f. Turn the bow band piece right side out, then fold the remaining side seam inside from the seamline and topstitch it in place.

6g. Topstitch along the edges of the bow band piece.

6h. Wrap the bow band around the middle of the bow and stitch the bottom edge of the bow band together to secure it in place.

6i. Place the bow on top of the front bodice, aligning it in the center of the bodice. Hand back stitch the bow to the bodice along the middle and all four edges.

To hand back stitch:

a. Thread a hand needle with matching thread and tie a knot at the end.

b. Start at one of the designated points and insert the needle up through the back of the bodice layers to the front of the bow back layer. Bring it back down next to the original hole and repeat this process 3–4 times to secure the stitching. Tie the thread securely before cutting. Repeat for all designated attachment points.
